We've purchased dozens of APC UPSes over the years and have been generally pleased with them, but back in July, we had a computer which was protected by BE550G get damaged during a thunderstorm. The computer was fine before the storm and dead afterward, so it stands to reason that it was damaged by a power surge during the storm.
